Connecting your inbox (Gmail & Outlook)
Realm can send and receive email as you — from your real Gmail or Outlook address — instead of only from your Realm address. When you connect your own inbox, EVE keeps your client threads in sync, sends replies from the same mailbox the client already knows, and keeps every message in the right person's conversation.
Connecting an account
- Go to Settings and open the Email section.
- Click Connect Gmail account or Connect Outlook account.
- Sign in with your provider and approve access. You come straight back to Realm with the account connected.
- Repeat to connect more than one inbox if you work out of several.
Each connected account shows its address and status. Use Disconnect on any account to unlink it at any time.
Nothing here changes your Realm email address or forwarding — see Email. Connecting Gmail/Outlook is about sending and receiving through your own mailbox from inside Realm.
"Sends as" — your primary inbox
When you have more than one inbox connected, one is your primary. Click Make primary on the account you want Realm to send new email from. There's exactly one primary at a time.
How Realm decides which address to send from:
- New emails go out from your primary connected inbox.
- Replies go from the same inbox that owns the thread, so a conversation always stays on one mailbox and doesn't jump addresses on the client.
- If you have no connected inbox (or a send fails), Realm falls back to your Realm email address so the message still goes out.
This means the person on the other end sees email from you, at the address they expect — while everything still lands in Realm.
Staying in sync — background & real-time
You don't have to hit refresh to see new mail.
- Background sync pulls each connected Gmail/Outlook account every few minutes, so the Inbox and EVE's awareness stay current without a manual "Sync now".
- Real-time push, where your provider supports it, ingests new mail within seconds of it arriving — so a reply can surface almost immediately rather than waiting for the next sweep.
Both run quietly in the background. If push isn't available for your setup, the few-minute sync still keeps everything fresh.
Because your real inbox flows into Realm, EVE can spot a thread that's gone unanswered and offer to Draft Follow-up with EVE for you — the draft lands in your composer to edit and send. See Working with EVE.
