Compliance packs
A compliance pack is a bundle of your brokerage's compliance rules and gates — the logic that decides when a Realm can move forward and what must be true at each stage. Brokers apply a compliance pack to set the governance rules the whole Workspace runs on.
Compliance packs are not document packs. They live in different places and do different jobs — see the next section. This distinction is permanent.
Compliance packs vs document packs
These two are easy to confuse, so keep them straight:

In short: a document pack says what documents are needed; a compliance pack is the rules-and-gates engine that enforcement rides on. When a Transaction Template marks a requirement as blocking, the compliance pack is what makes that block actually fire (where governance allows it).
Inside a Transaction Template you'll see the document layer labeled "Compliance Packs" too — there, it means the document/requirement bundle a Transaction Template attaches. The rules-and-gates packs described on this page are the governance substrate underneath. They're separate stores, kept separate on purpose.
Working with compliance packs
Brokers manage compliance packs in Brokerage Settings → Compliance. You can:
- See every pack — system packs (for example, state packs like AZ, CA, or Generic) plus your brokerage's own custom packs.
- Apply a pack to your Workspace so its rules and gates take effect.
- Customize a system pack — this duplicates it as a draft you can edit, so the original stays intact.
- Create a pack from scratch and edit its rules, gates, and automations.
EVE can also suggest packs and rules that fit how your brokerage works, so you're not starting from a blank page.
When packs take effect
Whether a compliance pack actually blocks anything depends on your Workspace's governance type. Under native governance the gates enforce; under external they're advisory; under self they're informational. See Compliance overview for how that works.
