Days on Market

The number of days a listing has been active on the MLS, a common signal of demand and pricing.

Definition

Days on Market (DOM) is the count of days a property has been listed as active on the Multiple Listing Service. It usually starts when the listing goes live and stops when the property goes under contract or is sold.

Some MLSs track a cumulative figure across relistings, so the headline DOM and a cumulative DOM can differ.

Why it matters

DOM is a widely read signal of demand and pricing. A rising DOM can indicate a price that is above market or marketing that needs adjustment; a low DOM suggests strong demand.

Agents use DOM to advise sellers on pricing and to time price changes, so keeping listing status and on-market dates accurate matters for both strategy and reporting.
